Associate Conductor - Glyn Williams
Glyn Williams is a world-renowned instrumentalist, adjudicator and conductor. Glyn was born in Aberystwyth where he was introduced to music by his Uncle and enjoyed playing Euphonium with Towyn Silver Royal Oakley and Menai Bridge, all local bands. After studying at Salford University tutored by top Euphonium clinicians such as the Childs Brothers, Glyn became Solo Euphonium of the Fodens Band, a position he held for 20 years. Glyn currently holds the Solo Euphonium seat with the world number one Cory Band helping them to achieve the unprecedented quadruple in 2016, winning all four major brass band contests. In 2017 Glyn became the first person to claim a personal 'Grand Slam' of Best Instrumentalist/ Best Soloist awards at all the major championship events with the British Open, National Championship of Great Britain, Brass in Concert and Europeans. Glyn has also recorded a number of solo CDs with the Fodens band and numerous CDs with the Cory Band. Glyn works closely with the Cory Academy tutoring and inspiring the next generation of musicians.
Glyn is in demand as an experienced adjudicator, he regularly supports entertainment contest, solo contests, regional contests and in 2017 will being adjudicating the National Finals in Cheltenham.
Glyn has great conducting success, he has held the position of Professional Conductor at the Marsden Silver Prize Band from 2004 to 2015 with great contest success. Highlights were winning the 2004 First Section at Pontins and then the Championship Section in 2010, winning at the French Open in 2004, a consistent record of wins at the Whit Friday March Contests and other local March Contests and of course the Senior Cup wins of 2009 and 2011. Since moving down to South Wales in 2015 Glyn has led Lydbrook Band to a number of contest successes. Glyn has worked closely with Lydbrook at the South West Brass Band Association contest, the West of England area contest and most recently leading them to third place at the 2017 Spring festival Senior Trophy with promotion to the Senior Cup in 2018.
