Gareth is a native of Cwm, Ebbw Vale in South Wales. In 2003 he graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama with a BMus(Hons) having studied euphonium for three years under the leadership of Dr Robert Childs. He continued his education at the University of Wales Institute, but Cardiff, completing a post graduate certificate in secondary music education.
His interest in music started at an early age playing the tenor horn in Cwm Town band. From there he progressed to Euphonium and played with many of the top competing bands across Wales. Aged sixteen, Gareth joined the world-famous, Cory band on euphonium and later returned in 2001 where he spent nine years playing Euphonium and Baritone. Whilst playing with Cory, Gareth tasted victory many times winning many of the biggest contests in the banding world. Gareth’s music-making has seen him tour America, Australia, New Zealand and many parts of Europe. Gareth also tasted success playing solo euphonium with the Tomra Brass band in Norway.
Gareth led City of Cardiff (Melingriffith) and Ebbw Valley Brass from fourth to championship section securing five national titles along the way.
Gareth was thrilled to have been appointed musical director of Lydbrook Band and he looks forward to a great future with the organisation.
