About Lydbrook Band
Lydbrook Band is a first section band from the heart of the Forest of Dean in the village of Lydbrook on the banks of the River Wye. Set in a valley, Lydbrook has been described as being 'two miles long and two yards wide'.
Formed in 1923 by a group of coal miners, the band's headquarters are based in Upper Lydbrook, GL17 9LQ, but records show that three bands existed in Lydbrook in the late 1800's.
Lydbrook Band organises regular tours abroad and has visited South Africa, Zimbabwe, Holland, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia, Barcelona, Los Alcazares (Spain) and in 2019 Katowice in Poland.
The band is renowned for its concerts and regularly organises "Last Night of the Proms" concerts as well as performing with choirs and other artists in various venues. In November 2018 the band was invited to perform at a WW1 centenary commemoration concert at Trinity College, Cambridge University.
