New Musical Director Appointed
Lydbrook Band is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Brett Baker as its new Musical Director. Brett will officially start with the band on 1st June with a concert on the picturesque riverbank in Lydbrook.
In response to his new position, Brett shared the following: "I have had a fond association with Lydbrook since joining the band as a young trombonist aged around 13 or 14. The positive encouragement and tuition that I received made a huge difference to me. For instance, having an introduction to the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain and experiencing Whit Friday, as well as hearing bands at the Nationals Finals; this very much determined my career path. I am very excited to be working with the band again as they move back into the Championship section next year, this time as the band’s Musical Director. Lydbrook has some ambitious plans over the coming years that I am keen to help facilitate. I am thrilled to be part of this journey and give something back in terms of opportunities and insight, having been fortunate to work with some of the very best conductors and educators over the years. I very much look forward to working with everyone at Lydbrook Band."
Speaking on behalf of the band, Secretary, Robert Morgan said "It will be wonderful to have Brett involved with Lydbrook Band on a permanent basis as he moves back to live in the Forest of Dean in the summer. Although Brett left the band as a teenager to progress his musical career, we've always had a strong relationship, and he’s returned on numerous occasions to perform as a guest soloist. We're looking forward to working with Brett in his new capacity and are excited to take advantage of his wealth of experience gathered over many years."
